Renewing our Vehicle’s registration

by Jade on May 26, 2010

Remember I told you about my frustration in registering our vehicle? Well we got through it and now it’s our first time to renew our vehicles registration in the Philippines. I have no idea how it works  so I gathered some information about it and here’s what I have found:

Car registration requirements:

  1. Copy of the original receipt (you got when you first registered) and Car registration
  2. Insurance (I advise you to look around for the best auto insurance quote before you head to LTO or if you don’t mind, you can get it from offices near or inside the LTO office itself.
  3. Emission test results done by an accredited testing center.
  4. Money for the reg fee for your vehicle.

To know when to renew your registration, check the last 2 numbers on the vehicle plate.

The last digit identifies the month
January – 1
February – 2
March – 3
April – 4
May – 5
June – 6
July – 7
August – 8
September -9
October -0

The 2nd to the last digit points to the week when you have to go to Land Transportation Office and renew your papers:

1st week of the month – 1,2,3
2nd week week of the month – 4.5,6
3rd week week of the month – 7,8
4th week week of the month – 9,0

Example:

If your plate number is JAD165, take the last two digits of your plate number to know you vehicle registration schedule. In this case, you need to renew your vehicle register in the first week of March (6 is for June, 5 is for the second week of the month)

There are fines if you are late with the renewal. The fees depends on the length of delay e.g. P200 for a week, and P1000 after a month.

As to your example plate # JAD 165, you said that the last digit refers to the month and the second to the last digit refers to the week when you go to LTO for registration. Isn’t it supposed to be on the second week of May? Why did you say first week of March?

I think ging ruc is right according to the explanation, it means JAD 165 means the vehicle registration must be 2nd week of May. Thanks
