Remember our recent trip to an Ostrich Farm in Desaru,Malaysia last May 2?
We have learned so much in that trip, we learned that the ostrich meat is way better than other meat. It is also said to be good for pregnant women.
Aside from the meat, ostriches also produces this wonderful skin that are then turned into leather. It is so unique, you would know it right away when you see it. Most of the designer brands definitely have at least one product from ostrich leather. To name a few of the many luxury designers who have ostrich leather goods : Hermès, Prada, Bottega Veneta and Gucci.
The one that really popularized the use of ostrich skins is Louis Vuitton. It is quite easy to recognize watches with an Ostrich Watch Bands or an ostrich handbag so women just love them for being different and simply beautiful.
Ostrich farming really sounded a good business but bear in mind ostriches are quite sensitive animals too. If they get wet when they are still very young, they will get sick and die.
I think we might will pass on this one and stick to chickens. Although it would just be wonderful to be able to produce that leather in your own backward as well eh?

KILL A BIRD — MAKE A BUCK— What a world we live in and how our thoughts go to making money , why can’t we just , be happy with the simple things in life, and stop all this killing of living things for our own gain.
Well thats my feeling on that subject, not to be mean , but it just “hits me below the belt”as thy say.

@ malcolm – I don’t think it’s mean, I truly understand your sentiments here. But since the beginning of time people have already used animal skin and animal meat to survive. It is sad but that is just a fact of life…the shoes in our feet, the jacket we wear most of them are made of animal skin.
I agree however that to use it for accessories can be a form of exploitation. I wish it could be different too.
Nothing more to say coz I absolutely agree with you Jade. It is a sad fact of life that animals have to be killed for man’s consumption. But that’s the way it is..
Btw, ostrich skin is a good quality leather, and expensive as well.
