I have been doing a lot of reading on health articles lately because I want to take care of myself better by eating the right food and taking in extra supplements. And then I stumbled upon gluten intolerance… Huh? I’d be honest with you, up until very recently I had absolutely no clue as to what gluten intolerance was.
Well, I have seen Gluten-Free meal in the special menu of Singapore Airlines when we go to the Philippines but never really knew what and for whom is it for.
So I decided to read a bit about it to gain some knowledge on it and here’s what I found:
Gluten is what you would call the protein part of certain grains like farro, kamut, rye, wheat, barley and other similar grains. Some people are found to be allergic to the gluten in these grains and so need to have a gluten free diet. It’s not as easy as it sounds.
Gluten intolerance is quite difficult to diagnose as symptoms can vary from diarrhoea and constipation to drastic weight loss. But there are some people as well who are sensitive to gluten and yet don’t have full blown celiac disease. They can benefit from a gluten-free diet.
Are there Gluten Free foods in the Philippines?
I am sure there is. I think nowadays you would find everything that you need everywhere. There are specialized products nowadays on the market that are free of gluten; from pastas, cookies, breads, cakes and so much more.
If you are traveling to the Philippines and want to know if there are gluten free foods there, visit Gluten-Free Philippines – it is a global gluten-free community where people can share information on gluten free living.
