What comes to your mind when you you hear about saunas?

Super hot room.

Sweaty People in a room filled with steam.

It is indeed extremely hot in traditional saunas, with some maintaining dry heat and others dousing the heat source with water, creating steam.

But there are also, infrared saunas where the body is heated without heating the surrounding air. Infrared sauna gives you all of the benefits of the sun without the sun’s harmful UVB rays. That’s great right?!

Using sauna has also some additional health benefits, like:

1. Pain Relief - It can make a such a big difference when it comes to pain relief because infrared sauna deeply penetrates into the body. For people who have problems like arthritis, muscle spasms and other chronic pain conditions often find that pain is eased by regular infrared sauna sessions.

2. Anti-Aging - Our skin is our largest organ but it is also our biggest enemy when it comes to aging. Many years of sun damage, together with an accumulation of dirt and toxins, can make us look older than our real age. The deep heat of saunas induces sweating, which is a natural way to cleanse our skin, and helps blood flow, which brings nutrients to the skin.

3. Weight Loss -When it’s hot, the body works hard to maintain its core temperature by sweating. In When you sweat ,you lose weight. In one 30-minute session, you can burn up to 600 calories!

4. Cardiovascular Health – Going to a sauna can help lower blood pressure and increase blood flow.

5. Detoxification – Nowadays, our bodies accumulate and store a lot of chemicals and toxins through the air we breathe. With infrared saunas deep heat penetration, they can help detoxify our body – through the skin and at the cellular level. This is the kind of detox that helps eliminate toxins such as cholesterol, mercury, lead, alcohol, sodium and nicotine.

So I guess you have to make plans now to find a sauna to go to this weekend to see if it’s something for you. Should you decide to have your very own sauna at home, check out http://www.crystalsauna.com/ to see if there’s something form you there. When we lived in Holland. we did have our own sauna so I can tell you myself it’s great to have one at home.

How ironic. It was 104 at 5pm today – and when I got into the car, first thing I thought of was, “Damn. It’s a freakin’ sauna in here!”
