The story behind Me and my Colorful Life

by Jade on May 4, 2009

I realized that there has been some confusion on where I am from and where in the world I am right now so let me give you the real deal my friends.

jade-smallI am Jade – born and raised in the Philippines, Asia. My parents are both full blooded Filipinos as well. I grew up in Quezon city in the island of Luzon. On my mother’s side – we do have some Spanish blood and on my father’s side some Chinese blood.

I am married to a dutch man who we are now going to call “Supportive Spouse”.

The Supportive Spouse is a dutch man but it’s not that simple my friends. He was born in South America, in a country called Suriname. His parents both Dutch – mom is born in Indonesia and has some Polish and Dutch blood in her and his dad has some French, African, Dutch and Indian blood in him.

We have lived in 3 countries since we are married. First country is the USA where my husband used to work. We then moved back to his home country The Netherlands for me to meet and be near with his family and now we are currently living in Singapore.

Our Family in The Netherlands

We have lived in The Netherlands (Holland) for more than 4 years. While living there I learned the dutch language and now speak it fluently. When you come to The Netherlands with your spouse and intention of living there for a long time, you are obliged to learn the language and go to a course called Inburgering cursus ( Getting to know the society ). After completing my Inburgering Cursus and passing the exam, I was able to attain the dutch nationality by naturalization.

In the Netherlands I got to know his family well and also have met wonderful friends. I love Holland for it’s beautiful architectures, tulips and haring! But the only thing we don’t like there is the weather and high taxes.

So when Supportive Spousee got an offer from his boss to move to Singapore – we immediately grab that opportunity. We have been here once and liked it so it is a new adventure for us and the fact that it is close to my mother land The Philippines was also a plus.

So our future kids will be a mixture of several nationalities ;) in other words a Halo Halo!halo-halo

Oh my, I’m from the Philippines and currently living the USA with my husband.

We’re debating moving to the Philippines, since he can work from anywhere there is internet.

He also mentioned Guam, but I doubt we’d do that one.

I have a Filipina friend who is living in the Netherland’s with her husband.

Love your blog..

@ Leslie – We planned to move to Portugal in the past but we thought about it and realized way too much trouble trying to learn the language and trying to fit in a society we hardly knew.

So we thought why not to the Philippines – I know the language and most people understand and speaks English and ofcourse cost of living is also way cheaper!;)

I think I may have helped in causing the confusion, sorry about that but now all has been explained. When it comes to the football World Cup or Olympic Games you must be cheering on somebody every other game or event. Thanks for the explanation and have a sweet day.
